We’re back from France after 4 days spent in the lovely Dordogne. It was the first time for Nick in France and I think he quite enjoyed it.
The weather was fantastic and we were able to enjoy the swimming pool just before my father’s big party. Hard life!

We arrived on Thursday afternoon. We enjoyed a (very) late lunch at Beauregard which is located on the cliff overlooking the valley of the Dordogne.
Later on, we went for some very local gorgeous dinner in Cadouin: local soup, plenty of duck in all shapes and tates, delicious wines. That was a good kick-off.

On Friday, we went to Beynac to introduce Nick to his first french castle. It is located on a cliff. There were 2 options to go up there. Car or walk. And yes, we walked. Nick’s decision. The boys decided to become plants paparrazzi, so the climbing wasn’t too hard. The visit of the castle was too expensive for the time we had to spend there, so we decided to go for a meal instead. I am still hearing about the omelette campagnarde nick’s had for this lunch. *rolls eyes*
After Beynac, we went back to Le Buisson, where my father’s shop is, so the boys could help unloading 2 pallets of dog’s food (about a ton and a half!) . While the girls were watching. VERY NICE.
After Le Buisson, we hit the road again and went to Domme. The view there is fantastic. I’ve been there myself 4 or 5 times and I am still amazed by the scenery. The landscape is breathtaking. And the village is lovely. As a lot of small villages around, it is a medieval one and has kept features from the past.
We had enough of road and visits after that and went back home where my best friend seb joined us. We later went to a barbecue at Beauregard.

On Saturday, before the party, we headed to Sarlat to enjoy the spirit of a french market. Sarlat is such a lovely little city and its market is… well, it’s a french market! We had another lovely meal here. Yes, that’s France! And Nick bought me 2 lovely pinkish-red scarves. Oh and I also bought some red flowery flip-flops.
It was then time to go home and get ready for the party. Well, as everything was more or less under control, we just had to spend some time in the swimming pool. A bit cold at first, but still very enjoyable!

The party kicked off around 8pm and the last ones to go left at 8am… It was very moving and very funny at the same time. There were 200 people there, celebrating the 50’s birthday of my father, his house warming and his early “retirement”. The party was a blast, with plenty of food and drinks. And loud music. There even was a “God Save The Queen” in honour of our english spiky colored friend Roly!!
The party lasted until the morning, but we went to bed “early”: it was 5 am!!

Sunday was a “loser” day, as I called them, as we spent most of our time sleeping. I think we were all terribly hungover! Ahem. The rest of the crowd went to another barbecue at Beauregard while we stayed at home, enjoying finally a VERY quiet evening. I think we needed that.

Monday was our last day. Woke up late and had a nice quick lunch by the rivers, before going to the airport. Nick managed to buy a book about the gardens in Périgord from the “castle’s” shop. But I’m sure he’ll talk about that later! Well, he should.

Ah, I forgot. My father lives in Limeuil which is classified as one of the nicest village in France.
